Profitability, growth and market-entry cases
Part of the Consulting learning and recruiting path. Read the explanation and example, attempt the task, then open the self-check.
Know what to learn for your role.
From foundations to a work sample, with sources, tasks and self-checks.
Understand
Diagnose before recommending. Growth needs demand, competitive advantage, capabilities and economics. A large market alone does not establish profitability. Specify entry mode, investment, risks and pilot criteria.
Worked example
Price 50, variable cost 30 and fixed cost 200,000 imply contribution 20 and break-even volume 10,000. Forecast demand of 6,000 requires revising the plan.
Examples and numbers are educational, not employer questions, live market data or hiring criteria.
Practise and keep your output
Write a new-store entry case covering demand, profit, resources, risks and pilot metrics. Test a 10% price reduction.
Keep inputs and sources, assumptions, steps, results and uncertainties in your own document. Attempt independently before checking below.
After attempting: answer and self-check
At price 45, contribution is 15 and break-even rounds up to 13,334 units. Recalculate contribution as well as revenue.
