Customers, funnels and operating metrics

Part of the Management Trainee learning and recruiting path. Read the explanation and example, attempt the task, then open the self-check.

Understand

Break outcomes into visits, conversion, basket size, retention and fulfilment. Define numerator, denominator, period and ownership. Volume growth can mask deteriorating quality.

Worked example

100 purchases from 1,000 visitors means 10% conversion. Doubling visitors with purchases unchanged drops conversion to 5%.

Examples and numbers are educational, not employer questions, live market data or hiring criteria.

Practise and keep your output

Map an acquisition-to-retention funnel, choose a bottleneck, and design a low-cost experiment with a stop rule.

Keep inputs and sources, assumptions, steps, results and uncertainties in your own document. Attempt independently before checking below.

After attempting: answer and self-check

Specify the target stage and guardrails such as refunds, complaints or cost.
