Supply chains, capacity and options
Part of the Management Trainee learning and recruiting path. Read the explanation and example, attempt the task, then open the self-check.
Know what to learn for your role.
From foundations to a work sample, with sources, tasks and self-checks.
Understand
A process is constrained by its bottleneck. Locate whether procurement, production, delivery or staffing limits growth. Compare cost, speed, quality and feasibility.
Worked example
Preparation at 80/hour, production at 50 and delivery at 70 caps throughput near 50. Expanding delivery alone does not remove production constraints.
Examples and numbers are educational, not employer questions, live market data or hiring criteria.
Practise and keep your output
Map a three-stage process and compare staffing, outsourcing and menu changes by cost, benefit and risk.
Keep inputs and sources, assumptions, steps, results and uncertainties in your own document. Attempt independently before checking below.
After attempting: answer and self-check
Bottlenecks can move. Use consistent periods and units, and distinguish capacity from demand.
