“At HSBC the assessment centre decides it. I spent my time on the group exercise and barely any on modelling.”

The role and the cycle

HSBC Global Banking summer internship, Hong Kong, 2027 intake. Application in late March 2026, online assessment in April, video interview in late April, assessment centre in late May, final interview in mid-June.

The process is materially different from the bulge brackets: no Superday, a half-day assessment centre with a group exercise, and a final interview with a director. My outcome was an offer in late June 2026.

How the process actually ran

Applied 29 March 2026. Online assessment mid-April. Video interview late April. Assessment centre late May. Final interview mid-June. Offer late June.

About twelve weeks end to end, with the assessment centre as the decisive stage.

Application strategy

I applied to HSBC, two bulge brackets and one Big Four firm.
