“The assessment centre got me in. What I did in the first three weeks of the internship decided whether it converted.”

The role and the cycle

HSBC Global Banking summer internship, Hong Kong, 2026 intake — the cycle before the current one. Application in April 2025, assessment centre in May 2025, offer in June 2025.

Note on freshness: this covers a completed intake. HSBC has changed parts of its assessment centre format since. Treat the timeline as historical and the behavioural lessons as the durable part.

How the process actually ran

Applied 5 April 2025. Online assessment late April. Video interview early May. Assessment centre late May. Final interview mid-June. Offer late June.

Roughly twelve weeks. I was invited back for a second stint afterwards, which is the part that mattered more than the offer itself.

Application strategy

I applied to HSBC and three bulge brackets.
