Understand banking teams and roles
Part of the Investment Banking learning and recruiting path. Read the explanation and example, attempt the task, then open the self-check.
Know what to learn for your role.
From foundations to a work sample, with sources, tasks and self-checks.
Understand
Banking teams advise companies on financing and transactions. Coverage teams understand clients; product teams focus on M&A or financing. Classify a role by its responsibilities, rather than the employer name.
Worked example
Analysing acquisition targets points to advisory; quoting FX to clients points to markets. They require different preparation.
Examples and numbers are educational, not employer questions, live market data or hiring criteria.
Practise and keep your output
Compare two official job descriptions: client, deliverables, skills, location and whether each belongs to IBD.
Keep inputs and sources, assumptions, steps, results and uncertainties in your own document. Attempt independently before checking below.
After attempting: answer and self-check
Support each classification with the job description. Explain advisory versus execution, and leave unconfirmed eligibility or dates unknown.
