CSB — six civil service degree grades explained

The Civil Service Bureau’s notice for the Administrative Officer grade and five related degree-level grades, with each grade’s entry requirements, salary scale and required language and aptitude papers. Note: this exercise has closed, so read it as the official statement of what these grades ask for. You must be a permanent resident of the HKSAR to be appointed, and Transport Officer II only accepts named disciplines.

Hong Kong institution, statutory body or programme published for Hong Kong; individual services, eligibility and dates must be checked.

Recommended next action

Read the six grades’ entry requirements and mark which ones your degree and language results would meet, then look for the next exercise on the Civil Service Bureau site.

Access and scope

The notice page is free to read. The 2026-27 application period has already closed; treat the page as the official statement of requirements, not as an open vacancy.

What to check at source

This page states requirements for a recruitment exercise whose application period ended on 2 October 2026; the page also carries an earlier exercise’s notice and a tentative examination date. It does not state that any grade is currently recruiting. Geography and sociology degrees count for Transport Officer II only if at least a quarter of papers or credits were in relevant subjects.
