The point

A channel is a place to look. A specific opening needs its own host, year, eligibility and status. Among the records that can be shown from the 2026-10-25 check, HKU Summer Research 2026 is historical and is not in the default open list. HKUST UROP, the HKU taster and the PolyU supervisor directory are channels. Their state is "lookup channel", not open.

A source that returned 403, or an old link that redirected somewhere unrelated, is not a current rule until someone reads it again. EdUHK and CityUHK are not written up as complete university-wide directories.

What to do

Easy mistakes

• Inferring that applications are open because the page still loads.
• Treating contact with a supervisor as formal admission.
• Merging different deadlines, or adding 23:59 to an unknown time.
