The point

Start from coursework and your own university's official taster channel. Write what you actually did: the question, the material, your steps, the result and the limit. Do not call a piece of work published when it is not.

Examples checked on 2026-10-25 include HKU's research-taster and summer pages and HKUST's undergraduate research opportunity notes. Those are places to look. Whether a given year is open comes from that year's page, not from the entrance still existing.

The matching template is the direction card. Next, open a lookup channel in Research opportunities instead of inventing a vacancy.

What to do

  1. Write one aim for this round. Do not change three paths at once.
  2. Open the matching official page and copy only the year, eligibility and deadline that page states.
  3. Leave unstated cells unknown. Unknown does not become open and it does not become a negative mark.
  4. Put the draft in a template or in My research. Copying is not sending.

Easy mistakes

  • Inferring that applications are open because the page still loads.
  • Treating contact with a supervisor as formal admission.
  • Merging different deadlines, or adding 23:59 to an unknown time.
